Taichi called as the spiked hared, goggle wearing boy dashed down the street. Daisuke stopped and grumbled. "What's your hurry?" Taichi asked him. "Why don't you come over so we can talk." "I don't wanna ‘talk'." Daisuke stated, obviously angry at the very idea. "Well weather you want to talk or not, we're talking. You've missed three days of school in the past two weeks, and I know for a fact that you cut at least two of those days. This isn't like you at all, I want to know what's wrong." Taichi didn't say another word, but kept a strong hold on Daisuke all the way to his apartment, so he couldn't think of running off. Once there Taichi went into the kitchen and grabbed to sodas, and a candy bar for Chibimon. "Candy! Candy!" Chibimon exclaimed in glee as Taichi passed him the chocolate. Daisuke only scowled more. "Daisuke, if something is wrong, you can tell me. I won't look down upon you or anything." Taichi said opening his can and taking a sip. "Yeah, at least not anymore than you already do." Daisuke snapped. Taichi almost spit out his soda in surprise. "What are you talking about?" He whispered. But Daisuke wasn't about to do any talking. He picked up Chibimon roughly. "Let's go." he said. "Candy! Candy!" Chibimon said again, with something in his mouth, but it wasn't candy. Daisuke made a grab for the object, but Taichi was quicker. "Daisuke." Taichi said sternly, looking from the object he held in his hand, and back at the smaller boy. "What, it this?" "Whatever it is it isn't yours! Give it to me!" Daisuke said with a mix of anger, fear and sorrow in his voice, he made a swipe for it. "Looks like drugs to me," Taichi said, unable to believe what was happening. "Now why would Chibimon have it?" "Don't know, there are a bunch of psychos around maybe he found it on the ground." "Nu-un! In your backpack Daisuke!" Chibimon said gleefuly, unaware at what was going on. "Candy! Candy!" "No Chibimon," Taichi said. "Not candy, bad food, very very bad. Don't let Daisuke have any." That was it for Daisuke, having Chibimon being put in charge of him. "What do you know anyway!? You…you and your perfect life! With all the friends you could ever want! What…what do you know!?" Daisuke stuffed Chibimon in his bag and stormed out the door, just as Yamato walked in. Taichi was still holding what Chibimon was chewing on. "Problem?" Yamato asked, eyeing Taichi in disbelief. "Yeah, Daisuke's hiding something…and I don't know why." Yamato glanced at Taichi, he could tell that he was really upset. "Any idea why he's hiding something?" Taichi sighed. "He told me, just before he left that he thought I had a perfect life, and all the friends I could want…do you think he feels neglected?" "I don't know. Was…that his?" Yamato pointed to the joint Taichi held in his hand. "Because if that's yours you and I are going to…" "Don't worry it's not mine. Daisuke pretty much addmitted that it was his, Chibimon thought it was candy." "Well, we could rat him out, or we could try and help him." "I don't want to tell on him just yet, I'm not even sure he's tried it. He just doesn't strike me as that kind of kid, why won't he tell me what's wrong?" Yamato shook his head. "There isn't much you can do now." He pushed Taichi onto the couch. "So why don't you pay a little attention to me?" Taichi tried to answer, but failed for the fact that Yamato's tongue was in his mouth. ~ ~ ~ "Chibimon! You stupid little rat!" Daisuke exploded at the small Digimon, who was cowering on his bed. "I…don't believe you would do that to me! Now Taichi thinks that I'm an even worse person than he thought before!" Daisuke almost started crying, but stopped himself just in time. "He's going to tell people, and soon Ken will know, I'll never have a chance with him then!" "Daisuke, don't be sad. Throw the bad stuff away, then tell Ken how you feel!" "It's not that easy." "It's not?" "No." "How come?" "Well…um…If I tell Ken how I feel…um…he'll know." "Isn't that the point?" Daisuke growled. "All right All right I'll tell him!" "When?" Chibimon prodded. "Tomorrow after school. But you're staying here, you've caused to much trouble for this week." Daisuke smiled. As much as Chibimon got on his nerves, he would be a total wreck if anything happened to him. "Will you throw the bad stuff away?" Daisuke looked at the opened bag, he didn't need it. Other people became dependant on in, but he wasn't. "Sure." He said simply, throwing that bag into the trash. Chibimon beamed. ~ ~ ~ It was early in the morning, probably about two or three, and Daisuke was a mess. He hadn't slept for hours, he was so nervous about what he was planning to do later that day. His mind shifted to the small sample of drugs that were sitting in his garbage can. "Just one." He whispered. "Only to calm my nerves, It's for pleasure, not to cool an addiction." Very carefully, so as not to wake Chibimon, Daisuke made his way over to the window and lit the small joint. ‘Ah that's better' he thought going back to bed, he fell asleep soon after. Daisuke looked at his reflection in the mirror just before it was time to leave for school. "Ready?" he asked himself. "Ready." It turned out to be a long day. Ken was no where in sight for the most part of the day, until just before last block. "Hi Daisuke." he said stepping over to him. "Sorry I wasn't at lunch, I had a test to take for another school and it took a better part of the day." "That's okay." Daisuke answered. But in all reality it was not. He had planed to take Ken outside during lunch and tell him how he felt, he was ready to confess, but his plans had gone wrong. "Well, we better get to class." Ken said, walking away. "But I..." Daisuke sighed. "Never mind." but Ken couldn't hear him anyway. 'I need a smoke.' he thought to himself. Last block was toucher. He was twitchy and edgy and he knew it would be late that night before there would be a chance for him to get his fix. "Daisuke are you alright?" Hikari asked looking him in the face. "I'm fine!" He snapped back. "That was rude." Takeru commented. "Why don't you try to be a little nicer." Daisuke began mumbling to himself. "I don't have to be nice if I don't want to be." "Geeze Daisuke, what's eating you? If it's really that bad why don't you tell us so we can help you out." "Look, there isn't anything wrong, now would everyone please leave me alone?!" Just then the bell rang signaling the end of class, Daisuke fled the room like it was on fire. Heading up the elevator to his family's apartment he was a shaking wreck. He ran into the door and into his bedroom thinking of nothing else...that's where he was faced with a very angry Chibimon. "Hey, what's wrong pal?" Daisuke asked innocently. Chibimon was sitting on the floor gripping something in his hands, he began mumbling countless words. "What was that?" "...You LIED!!!" Chibimon screamed, finally facing Daisuke. "You said you'd throw the bad stuff away and you lied!" The little Digimon began to cry. "I found this on the floor this morning...opened, it was closed last night." he stated holding up the bag of drugs. "I...I..." Daisuke stuttered. There wasn't anything to say, he had broken his promise to his best friend...there was nothing he could do to make it right again. "Daisuke BAD!" Chibimon yelled when he realized that Daisuke wasn't going to tell him it was all a mistake. He jumped up from where he sat and ran out the bedroom door. He jumped up to reach the apartment door and ran out of there too. Daisuke was shaking even more than he had been. He reached for the discarded bag and pulled out a joint. And stopped dead in his tracks. What was he doing?! His best friend he had ever had just ran out the door and he wanted that smoke...yes...it wasn't a pleasure thing anyomore...it was a necessity. He clutched the bad in his fists and began to cry. "What have I done?" he whispered to an empty house. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Taichi contunied to gaze at Daisuke's appartment. Supprisinly enough the boy had been in school that day after their incounter. His first instinct was to say that he was getting better. The numorous cases of skipping school...being caught with the drugs...was only a short phase. But Taichi's mind refused to let him rest. Something was wrong. "There you are Mr. Yagami." came a teasing voice, from behind. It belonged to Yamato. "Konnichi-wa Yamato" Taichi answered not taking his gaze from the building. "You know if you don't stop obsessing over Daisuke I'm going to get jealous." Yamato said slipping his hand into Taichi's. "I'm just worried about him." Taichi whispered. "I know, I was only kidding. I don't like to see you so worked up." "There you are Oni-chan!" Takeru said coming up behind them with Hikari. Yamato and Taichi's hands quickly separated, as they tried not to blush at being caught doing things lovers do. "Oh, don't bother with that." Hikari stated. "We've know about you for the longest time. We need to talk to you about Daisuke." Yamato and Taichi exchanged glances of confusion and relief. Confusion that their younger siblings knew about them, and relief that they were taking the arrangement so well. "How much do you know about Daisuke?" Taichi asked. "Just that he's been really edgy and has been skipping school a lot too." Takeru answered. "Why do you know anything else?" Taichi sighed. "That's what I was afraid of. I think I know the reason for all of his edginess, come on it's time we all went to talk to him. The apartment door was closed. "Daisuke! Come on we want to talk to you!" Taichi yelled pounding on the door. "We aren't mad about this afternoon!" Hikari added. "Stop being a baka!" Takeru shouted at the door. "If you don't open up right now I'm going to break down the door!" Yamato yelled, annoyed that Daisuke was making his lover suffer with worry. "Why don't we try *opening* the door first?" Takeru suggested to his brother. Taichi, ever so carefully turned the knob and pushed it open. The appartment was full of the sounds of hysterical sobs. They all bolted toward the sorce of the noise. Daisuke was kneeling on the floor covering his eyes and clutching a bag. His body was were the sobs were coming from. "Daisuke...what happened?" Takeru asked. Taichi was frowning. He carefully unhooked Daisuke's fist and removed the bag. Both Takeru and Hikari gasped in surprise, they saw what the bag contained. "Chibimon ran away." he gasped. "And it's all my fault!" "Daisuke what's this? How could you...have this...this JUNK!?" Hikari demanded. Daisuke stayed silent, starring at the floor. "I know what I've been doing is wrong, but please help me find my friend." ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Ken held onto his bag as he walked home from school. He had to stay after to help a teacher with a computer. The trouble of being a genius. He was just about to turn up his street when he noticed a familiar flash of blue round the corner. It was little Chibimon. "Chibimon!" he called "Where are you going?" A sniffling Chibimon turned to face him "Running away." Ken was confused. What had caused Daisuke's best friend to take off alone? "Won't Daisuke be upset?" "Daisuke's a *liar*." Chibimon hissed. Now Ken was *really* confused, and didn't bother to hide it. "Come on now, Chibimon, what would Daisuke lie to you about?" "Bad food." "Bad food?" "Taichi said to make sure Daisuke didn't have anymore. Daisuke said he'd throw them away, but he ate it late at night. He *lied*." Ken was beginning to get suspicious. "Tell me what this 'bad food' looked like." Chibimon quickly explained the joints to Ken as they walked to Ken's apartment. Ken stopped dead in his tracks. Daisuke was addicted to drugs. "Chibimon." he said seriously, narrowing his eyes. "We need to have a serious talk. Daisuke's going to need help, and a lot of it. You're going to need to know what to do." It was later that night before the better half of the Digidestines walked into Daisuke's apartment, cold, wet and defeated. Koushirou, Iori and Miyako had joined the search after discovering that Chibimon was missing. Both Miyako and Iori had yelled at him, telling him he was irresponsible for letting his Digimon go off on his own. Koushirou had calmly said they should look for Chibimon and *then* figure out what to do about a responsibility talk Slumping onto the couch Daisuke refused to let himself cry, he had brought this upon himself, he deserved no sympathy. "Don't worry Daisuke, I'm sure we'll find him." Iori said, looking up at him. "I hope you know that when we do find him." Hikari interjected, glaring at Daisuke. "Things don't stop there." "I know." He whispered, close to tears. "I'm sorry." Everyone was interrupted from further confrontation by Jun, who had just exited from her bedroom. "There you are, next time you take off of hours at a time, let me know will ya? Mom and Dad won't be home until sometime tomorrow...hum...there was something else too, what was it? Oh yeah! That Ken character you've been hanging around with called, he said it was really very important. He said he found something." "What did he find?!" Daisuke cried jumping up from the couch. "Oh I don't remember! Why don't you call him and ask him yourself?" and with that she walked back into her room, but not before grabbing Yamato's arm, insisting she needed to show him something, dragging him into his room and locking the door. Taichi had to be held back from breaking it down. While Iori and Takeru were holding Taichi down on the couch Daisuke dove for the phone. One ring...two...three, finally someone picked up. Luckily it was Ken himself. "Ken! Ken! Have you found him?!" "Hai." Ken answered. "He's right here, do you want to talk to him?" "Hai." Daisuke whispered, there was a pause followed by a slight struggling. Daisuke could just picture the tiny Digimon determined to hold the phone by himself, but would have to submit to Ken's help. "Daisuke?" Came the adorable squeaky voice. Daisuke couldn't keep it in any longer, he burst out into tears, and the others discreetly left the room. "H-hey buddy...I...I'm...I'm so sorry." "S`okay Daisuke. I'm sorry I left." He paused and Daisuke was suspicions that he was crying as well. "Come get me now?" "I'm on my way." And with that Daisuke hung up the phone and tore out of the apartment. It only took him five minutes to cross the town and reach Ken's apartment. He burst into the dark house and Chibimon flew into Daisuke's arms. "I'm sorry Daisuke, I didn't know...I still love you." "I'm sorry little guy." Daisuke said, still in tears. "I'll stop, I promise." "Hello Daisuke." Ken said, speaking up for the first time, getting off the couch and walking towards the two of them. Daisuke quickly whipped away his tears and looked at Ken, still gripping his little friend. "Thanks Ken...for finding him. I don't know what I would have done if..." "It's okay. He sure had a lot to say, and I think I pieced together basically what happened." He looked Daisuke straight in the eye. "Daisuke, you have to tell me have. You. Been. Doing. Drugs?" Daisuke looked at his feet, and then to the ceiling, there were tears, yes, lots of them. "Y-yes. I-I don't know what else to say, and you probably wouldn't believe me anyway." Ken took Daisuke's hand and looked at him. "You trusted me when, I turned over from being The Kaizer, I'll trust you to tell me the truth now." ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ "It was probably about six months when it started." Daisuke began after he calmed down and had some tea, Chibimon was sitting in his lap, listening to every word. Ken sat just beside him listing as well. "No, it was before that, all the little comments, everything everyone said about how...worthless I was, that I was a jerk." he swallowed hard. "At first I got offensive, told people off, then I began to ignore the comments, just rolling my eyes at them...but after a while it stung, like people were wounding me." "You shouldn't listen to those kind of people, they just have nothing better to do then hurt people like you." Ken said stroking Daisuke's hand. "It wasn't just anyone! It wasn't anyone I could ignore! It was Miyako and Iori, Takeru, Hikari, all of them! They hurt me! I didn't think that they cared at all!" Daisuke bit his lip, trying to keep the tears back, he couldn't seem to keep them under control today. "I fell into a depression I guess, It was something I kept hidden pretty well, I didn't want them to start being nice just because they thought I was sick, If they were going to be nice, they had to do it on their own." Daisuke laughed bitterly. "I feel like such a little kid, ‘Mommy, they weren't being nice'." "Don't Daisuke, you have every right, to be angry. People should realise that comments like that hurt. Being your so called friends they *should* have realized." Daisuke laid his head on Ken. And Ken began to stroke his hair. "What did I do wrong? Was I such a horrible person they couldn't treat me like a true friend?" "Oh my Daisuke." Ken whispered as Chibimon rubbed Daisuke's hand in comfort. Daisuke swallowed and sat up abruptly. "But I'm getting off the subject..." He never heard Ken whisper the words "No your not." "It was three months ago, almost to the day, I first got my offer to try some pot. Now don't think I'm a complete idiot, I said no...at first. But the guy, he handed me a bag and said ‘Don't be throwing my offer away so quickly, I think you could use it.' and insisted that I keep it." Daisuke sighed. "It sat in my desk for three weeks without thought, but soon...I just couldn't take anything anymore. It was obvious that Hikari was in love with Takeru and she loved to torment me with the knowledge...god did it hurt." So I tried some, teachers always said that it was awful stuff, but people used it to escape...what if I could use it, just a little bit, things seemed so unbearable...what did I have to lose?" Ken gripped Daisuke tightly. "Oh god I wish I knew what was going on, I don't want you to have to go through this alone...You have me now." Daisuke gripped his hand lightly. "I know, but when all this was happening, you were still the Digimon Kaizer, you were having problems of your own." "You were going through all this and you still managed to help me...Daisuke...you're something else." "I never meant to...but somewhere in there I got addicted to the stuff." He looked at Chibimon and smile weakly. "It took Chibimon running away for me to realize that I had a problem." "I sorry Daisuke, I wanna help you get better! I do what ever you want!" Chibimon cried, clinging to his friend's hand. "Thanks Chibimon, I appreciate that." Daisuke answered. He began to shake slightly and sweat. "I really feel like I could use one now, don't let me have any...what ever you do." "We won't Daisuke, I promise, first thing in the morning we'll start to get you some help, the very best." "I know!" Chibimon cried jumping off the couch and heading into hte kitchen, The two boys looked at each other in confusion until the little Digimon came back hauling a candy bar behind him. "Fight bad candy with good candy!" Laughter rang out in the apartment, and just for a moment the tention was lifted and they felt happiness.
