"Shelter from the storm" by Sara Jaye Look! I wrote another 'Boshific! XD This one is just a random fluffy/slightly angsty piece I came up with one night. It's also the first one in which I use both twins' given names. For those not that familiar with FY: Koutoku - Amiboshi Shunkaku - Suboshi [Disclaimers: Fushigi Yuugi is the property of Watase Yuu. None of the characters belong to me. This is a slightly shounen ai story containing mild twincest, you know the drill, don't like it, don't read it.] ~ "Aniki, I'm cold." The young boy opened his robe and pulled his brother's trembling body against him, then closed his robe again. "Is that better?" "Hai, aniki," the other twin whispered, yawning slightly. It was a cold, rainy night. The eight-year-old boys had set up camp in a secluded forest, which, fortunately, was devoid of any wild animals or other people. The thin fabric of their tent protected them from the rain, but the cold was still seeping in. "Aniki?" "What is it, Shun-chan?" "You think the war's gonna be over soon?" Koutoku sighed. "I don't know, otouto," he said. "I sure hope so." "I miss okaa-san and otou-san," Shunkaku mumbled, sniffling. Koutoku's arms tightened around his brother. "Shh...I know. I miss 'em too, otouto. We'll be okay, though. Everything's going to be okay," he whispered. "R-really?" Shunkaku glanced up with tear-filled eyes. "Yeah." Koutoku smiled warmly at him. "It's gonna be okay. I'm here, and I'm not gonna let anything happen to you," he said as he gently rubbed Shunkaku's back. "I'll take good care of you, I promise." Shunkaku smiled and hugged his brother tightly. "Thanks, aniki," he whispered. "Anytime," Koutoku whispered. "Now let's get some sleep. It's late." "Hai," Shunkaku yawned, snuggling closer. Koutoku yawned slightly and closed his eyes. It had been a long day, and tomorrow was sure to be one of many more long days ahead. 'I'm tired of this,' he thought, sighing softly. 'I want the war to be over so we don't have to be afraid anymore.' "Aniki?" The small, tired voice snapped him out of his thoughts. "Hai, Shun-chan?" "I love you." Koutoku's spirits lifted at those words. No matter how bad things were, he felt comfort in knowing he had his brother by his side. "I love you too, otouto," he whispered. As Shunkaku drifted off to sleep, Koutoku placed a light kiss to his forehead. "Sleep well, Shun-chan." As the twins fell asleep, the rain became a storm. ~ Rain beat against the windows in a steady rhythm. Thunder and lightening shook the ground. Winds howled. And within the confines of a small room, a 15-year-old shivered miserably, desperately trying to keep warm with only a single blanket. Suboshi hated storms. He hated being cold, and he hated not being able to sleep. Most of all, he hated being alone on a night like this. "Aniki..." Suboshi's eyes filled with tears. His relationship with his brother was so strained lately. They'd had their arguments in the past, but these days Amiboshi barely spoke to him. Whenever they did talk, or even have contact, he always seemed distant. "Why is he being this way? Did I do something to make him mad? If so, what?" It hurt. Not so much that Amiboshi was avoiding him, but the idea that he'd done anything to upset his aniki. A crash of thunder jolted Suboshi out of his thoughts. Shuddering, Suboshi got out of bed. 'He'd never turn me away. And sharing a room with someone who's ignoring me is better than staying in here alone,' he thought. Amiboshi was awakened by a knock at the door. "Who is it?" he mumbled sleepily. "Aniki?" Amiboshi smiled slightly. "Come in," he said. Suboshi blinked. Amiboshi didn't SOUND mad. He let himself in, closing the door slowly behind him. "Is something wrong?" Amiboshi asked, still nestled under his blanket. Suboshi's heart pounded. "Can...can I stay in here with you tonight, aniki?" he asked nervously. "Sure. Come on, get into bed," Amiboshi whispered. "Thanks." Suboshi walked over and got under the covers next to him. They lay in silence for a few moments. Then Suboshi began to shiver rather badly. "Otouto?" Amiboshi turned over on his side, feeling the cold through their link. "I'm so cold, aniki," Suboshi mumbled. Amiboshi immediately wrapped his arms around his twin. The second his brother's warm arms locked around him, Suboshi's worries melted away. He knew his aniki loved him, even if they weren't on best of terms right now. At the same time, Amiboshi felt his own tension fade away. He'd been afraid his brother was too preoccupied with Yui-sama lately, and didn't want to seem 'in the way'. But feeling Suboshi in his arms, he knew he'd been worrying about nothing. "Is that better, otouto?" he asked. "Yeah, much better," Suboshi murmured, snuggling closer. "Good. Now let's get some sleep, it's already almost midnight," Amiboshi yawned, pulling the covers tighter around them. They were older, and things were different now. But as they lay snuggled under the blanket together, they knew the one thing that would always be the same was the bond they shared as brothers. "Aniki?" Suboshi murmured, his eyes beginning to close. "Hai?" "I love you." "I love you too, otouto," Amiboshi whispered. He gently kissed the top of Suboshi's head, then nestled his cheek against his hair, closing his eyes. 'Girls will come in and out of our lives, but they'll never share what we do,' each twin thought before drifting off to sleep. ~End~ Yay! Finished! ^^ Parts of the second scene are a bit sappy, especially the ending, but sometimes a little sap is nice. ^^ The title is from the Bob Dylan song bearing the same name. It's a pretty good song. ^^
